Central, peripheral and special lines
PICC Line (Peripherally Inserted Central catheter)
- Long peripheral cannula
- Inserted into deep/central veins
Hickman line
- Technique
- Incision made in neck (exit site)
- Incision made lower down
- Line tunnelled between incisions
- Upper site used to cannulate central veins
- Contains Dacron cuff as infection barrier
Portacath
- Consists of reservoir compartment with septum for injections (the portal)
